Want a Better Golf Swing?
As golfers, we all have pretty much the same ultimate goal. We all want to try and perfect our swings to the point where we no longer have any questions about the quality of contact that we’re going to make on any given golf swing.
Now, what I’m about to talk about is no secret, but it can have a dramatic effect on the quality of your swing, and maybe even lower that number on the far right-hand side of your scorecard a little bit.
Ready for it…brace yourself…
Stop moving your head when you swing. (Earth-shattering information, right?)
Do me a favor. The next time you go to your local driving range, check out some of the other people there. They spend hours and hours on end at the driving range trying to fix their slice or hook, wondering why their ball doesn’t go straight, or why their divot is 6 inches deep. But throughout their swing they look like they’re head-banging to death-metal.
Before you leave me an angry comment telling me that I know nothing about golf, please understand that I realize that keeping your head still is only a small step toward a good golf swing. I’m not trying to say this is going to move you from a 45 handicap to the PGA Tour, but I am trying to say that this is a crucial part of a good swing. It just amazes me that so many people disregard it, even though it’s so easy to keep in mind while you swing. And it just might help to lower your handicap.
Just remember that your body needs to rotate around your spine. Think of your spine as a big pin that your shoulders rotate around. Your head is just the top part of that pin, so it shouldn’t move either, in any direction.
Here’s a slow-motion video of the best in the world, Tiger Woods. Just watch his head throughout his swing, and take some notes. Then, the next time you go out to the driving range, pay attention to how much your head moves. I’m not saying you’ll become a scratch golfer, but it will help you develop a more technically sound golf swing. And if this doesn’t work, here’s a short instructional video that will give you the perfect golf swing.
