RBC Canadian Open Finally Ends in a Playoff

After a weekend where Mother Nature seemed like she didn’t want anyone to play golf, the RBC Canadian Open finally came to a close today.
Nathan Green and Retief Goosen were tied at -18 after the final round, forcing them into a playoff. On the second hole of the playoff, Green was setup with a 12-foot birdie, but he couldn’t find the cup. Then, Retief Goosen had a par putt from 8 feet that he couldn’t hole either, allowing Green to come away with the victory.
This was Green’s first PGA Tour victory, although he had come close before. In another playoff at the Buick Invitational in 2006, Green was eliminated after the first playoff hole in an event that Tiger Woods went on to win.
A couple of Canadians, Stephen Ames and Mike Weir finished in the top-25 in their country’s national championship. Ames finished tied-for-8th at -12, and Weir was tied-for-24th at -10.
The hole-in-one parade continued today with Kevin Sutherland’s ace on the seventh hole, bringing the total to eight for the tournament. That’s the most in the PGA Tour’s history. The closest to this tournament was the 2004 John Deere Classic in which 5 hole-in-ones holes-in-one were made.
