Nike SQ Sumo 5000 Driver
One of my favorite drivers that I’ve been able to play with is the Nike SQ Sumo 5000. The biggest reason that I like this driver so much is its forgiveness. I’ve been playing golf for a few years, but I haven’t been able to drive the ball consistently whenever I want to, which is pretty common with amateur golfers. This club allows me to get good results even when I have off-center hits, because it has high moment of inertia, or MOI.
If you don’t know what MOI is, all you really need to know is that clubs with high MOI do not twist as much on off-center hits. If you don’t hit the ball in the center of the club face, the club head wants to rotate around its center of gravity, or CG. Since the Nike SQ Sumo 5000 has a 460cc club head, Nike has plenty of room to move the center of gravity lower and more rearward on the club head using their PowerBow weighting system.
The PowerBow weighting system is Nike’s fancy term for the way that they manage the weight around the perimeter of the club head, allowing them to place the center of gravity in an optimal position.
So, what do all these fancy terms like high MOI and PowerBow do for you? In simple terms, Nike made this club so that you can hit a golf ball longer off the tee and more accurately, even if you don’t hit it in the sweet spot.
The club face is made of NexTi titanium, which gives the ball a little extra kick as it comes off the face. It’s also conforms to the rules and regulations of the USGA, so if you plan on turning pro, you’re good to go with this club.
I bet you didn’t think so much thought went into making golf clubs, but there’s some serious engineering going on there. And whatever they’re doing is working…because after all the scientific mumbo-jumbo, you really can hit the ball longer and straighter with this club because it’s so forgiving.
You can take a closer look at the Nike SQ Sumo 5000 right here, because we sell it in the Drivers section of our store, so check it out. Or, you can get it from Golf Galaxy, on sale for $149.99, by clicking right here.
