Has Augusta National Become Impossible For Average Playing Golfers
Has Augusta become impossible for average playing golfers? That is the question that many people ask and they are very right to ask this question. Augusta is a great course and it is where the Masters has been held and it is a course that so many golfers have huge respect for. It is considered the most challenging venue on the calendar. But there are genuine worries that it may be becoming a little too difficult. A few changes have been made in recent years and instead of those changes leading to lower scores they are actually leading to higher scores. People are finding it harder to make par and to get scores in the negatives. More players are missing the cut that normally would not and average golfers find it a course that is almost impossible.
There are so many difficult holes at Augusta where it is easy to become trapped. A lot of them are holes that seem simple but have hidden dangers that can quickly see you fall to a bogey or double bogey. While that challenge separates good golfers from the rest, it also means less entertainment. People want to see a tournament with lower scores. They want to see Tiger Woods at -10 and Rory McElroy at -11 fighting it out to win the Masters. They do not want to see it become a fight to see who can get less double bogeys. They do not want a Masters where the winner has a score of 2 or 3. That means the course is failing and becoming too difficult.
While people will always respect the history of Augusta, it may be time to change it around a bit so that average golfers do not find it such an impossible task. After all, if the pros struggle to make par what chance does anyone else have.
